Ryan wants to be Jets coach for 'next 15 years'

(AP) ? Rex Ryan has no plans to go anywhere.

Doesn't want to, he said.

The feisty New York Jets coach opened his news conference Friday by denouncing a published report that said he would welcome being fired if owner Woody Johnson doesn't make significant personnel and coaching changes to the offense.

"There was a report that was untrue," Ryan said. "The fact is, and it's simple: This is the only team that I want to coach. Period. This is my team. These are my players. I don't want to coach somebody else's players. This is the team I want to coach."

With the Jets (6-9) out of the playoffs for the second straight season, Ryan's job status has become somewhat tenuous in his fourth year. But Ryan said he was "mad as a hornet" when he read the Daily News story, and immediately called Johnson to deny it.

The paper, which quoted unidentified sources, said it stood by the report. The back page carried a picture of Ryan and a headline that said: "Rex Wants Out ... Unless Woody spends on Jets' woeful offense."

"It's a very solid report," said Teri Thompson, managing editor for sports at the Daily News.

Ryan said he was contacted by the reporter Thursday night, but his response wasn't included. Thompson said it was an off-the-record comment and as such was not published.

"There's no bigger Jet than me," Ryan insisted. "I want to be the Jets' head coach for the next 15 years."

Several Jets players said Ryan talked about the story with them in the team meeting earlier in the day, but declined to elaborate on what was said.

The Jets are preparing to finish their season at Buffalo on Sunday. In limbo are the futures of Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum, offensive coordinator Tony Sparano and quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez.

"Let's face it, I wear Jets stuff every single day," Ryan said. "I'm proud to be a Jet. Sometimes I'm proud to be a Jet more than others. I mean, this season has been a rough one. But this is my team that's how I approach it. I believe that we can accomplish what I set out to do when I took the job. And that's the truth."

Finding the right travel insurance health cover

Errors To Stay Away From When Starting An Internet Business ...

One of the principal reasons men and women wind up failing when they try to start an internet business is mainly because they make a lot of the same mistakes as other people have made in the past. The worst part is, many of these men and women may have been able to realize success if they were able to stay away from these mistakes in the first place. On this page we?re going to look at a number of the mistakes that folks make and let you know how you will be able to avoid them.

Many individuals believe all the hype that they find online right now about becoming rich overnight, but you need to realize that this is something which isn?t going to take place. For individuals that are just starting off in the Internet Marketing and advertising field I can almost guarantee that you?ve come across at least one program that claims to have the ability to get you rich overnight. It takes time and hard work to construct a successful Internet business, there is not one program online today that will in fact be successful at providing men and women with overnight riches Even though many of these programs can end up being very convincing, you should understand that the creator of this program only makes these claims in order to get you to purchase their product.

Another common mistake that folks are going to make in relation to getting started online is not researching programs before they purchase them. Although there are tons of scams floating around the Internet today, there are legitimate programs as well, the problem is knowing the difference. Prior to deciding to invest in any program make certain that you research the program thoroughly and find reviews from individuals who have actually used it. If the program doesn?t go into detail about your responsibilities after you receive the information and knowledge, you need to be asking yourself why they?re being so vague concerning this. In most cases, product developers are very vague because they?re aware of the reality that individuals won?t purchase their product if they know what it consists of. Ads can be a great revenue stream. If you?re looking to attract advertisers on your blog, it might be a good idea to check these excellent guidelines on http://321seo.blogspot.com/2012/11/make-blog-attractive-for-advertisers.html.

When many individuals do not start earning cash overnight they end up becoming very discouraged and quitting before they realize success, and this obviously is a mistake. Similar to any other business it is going to take time for you to construct your Web business, nothing comes about overnight, it takes hard work and time. It could end up taking months for you to start seeing a real income, but in the long run it could definitely be worth the wait. SEOLinkMonster.com affiliate has more details on this so check it out!

And one final mistake that folks make would be that they put all of their faith in one program without ever learning the basics of Internet advertising and marketing. The planet of Internet Marketing and advertising is vast, and so is the knowledge that is out there in order to help men and women find success. Because of this you need to continue to research the subject and learn as quite a lot of the basics as you possibly can, it doesn?t matter what program you elect to get going with.

Instaport.me, The ?Blessed? Archival Service For Instagram, Is Buckling Under The Demand For Requests

161118625_10b9d0e0a5_zEver since Instagram and Facebook announced their updated terms of service, folks have been wondering what it means for them. We’ve tried to lay that out for you so that you can draw your own conclusions, but it seems a lot of people want to download an archive of their Instagram photos, potentially to delete their account completely. Instagram suggests using a site called Instaport.me to do so, in their help section. The team doesn’t have an official, Instagram or Facebook, built solution as of yet, although it will be interesting to see if Instagram photos get included in your full Facebook download that the company makes available. However, it seems like the site is buckling under the pressure of people’s requests, with a message at the top of the site that says “We are expecting high traffic right now. If you have problems downloading your photos, please try again tomorrow or the next days”: I reached out to its creator, Florian Brandel, yesterday, to find out what the load on the site was really like: “Thats hard to tell as the traffic peak just started. What I can say is, that the numbers today already doubled those of yesterday. A normal day means about 2000 exports. Currently 300 users are “active” on the site.” When I visited Instaport.me today, I was getting 500 errors and non-loading images left and right. I’ve reached out to Brandel again for an update on how much traffic he was getting and the number of requests that were being sent through. We will let you know what he says. What does this mean? It could just mean that people want to safely store their photos in case something happens with Instagram, or it could mean that people are ready to leave Instagram entirely. That’s not for us to decide, but the fact that the blessed export service by Instagram can’t handle the load is telling. What I do know is that it sucks to put the load for an important function on an independent developer and his site. You can however use Copygram or Snapjoy to back up your Instagram photos, and those sites seem to be fairing well as far as the load. [Photo credit: Flickr]

unleaded gas camp stove - ETS Forums - The Survival Forum

My one worry on the gasoline is ANY fumes are and ISSUE. I worked a Experiential Education camp for teens as the equipment manager and we had the 1980's "official" silver dual fuel Coleman stoves (single burner), and we never used anything but white gas. The white gas is seemingly less explosive (perhaps??) than gasoline. It always made me nervous thinking of lighting and storing gasoline for that purpose. I suppose to HAVE the option is nice, but as a "normal" operating fuel.......not for me. In a practicing for a "situation" where other fuels not available...OK.

Some old mountaineering buddies had a saying "A Peaker is a Leaker" in reference to the Peak 1 line Coleman used to have. I think the issue was around altitudes and in backpacking senarios as I never had a issue in normal situations and carried a different brand stove on altitude trips as the Colemans are heavy.

Talks on Internet treaty fail as US bloc won't sign

16 hrs.

DUBAI/SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - An attempt by national governments to establish a worldwide policy for oversight of the Internet collapsed on Thursday after many Western countries said a compromise plan gave too much power to United Nations and other officials.

Delegates from the United States, UK, Australia and other countries took the floor on the next to last day of a UN conference in Dubai to reject revisions to a treaty governing international phone calls and data traffic.

"It's with a heavy heart and a sense of missed opportunities that the U.S. must communicate that it's not able to sign the agreement in the current form," said Terry Kramer, the U.S. ambassador to the gathering of the UN's International Telecommunication Union.

While other countries will sign the treaty on Friday, the absence of so many of the largest economies means that the document, already watered down to suit much of the West, will have little practical force. "It will bring some legal concerns between countries that have and haven't signed the treaty," said a South American delegate who declined to be identified.

Though technologists who had raised alarms about the proceedings preferred no deal to one that would have legitimized more government censorship and surveillance, the failure to reach an accord could increase the chance that the Internet will work very differently in different regions.

"Maybe in the future we could come to a fragmented Internet," delegate Andrey Mukhanov, a top international official at Russia's Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, told Reuters. "That would be negative for all, and I hope our American, European colleagues come to a constructive position."

Delegates from the United States and other holdout countries said they would continue to press at other international gatherings in support of what they call a "multi-stakeholder model," in which private industry groups set standards and play a large role in the development of the medium.

Countries that had been seeking an expansion of the ITU role reacted with some bitterness to the failure to reach a consensus.

Tariq al-Awadhi of the United Arab Emirates, head of the Arab States' delegation, said his group had been "double-crossed" by the U.S. bloc after it had agreed to a compromise deal that moved Internet issues out of the main treaty and into a nonbinding resolution saying the ITU should be part of the multi-stakeholder model.

"Unfortunately, those countries breached the compromise package and destroyed it totally," said Awadhi. "We have given everything and are not getting anything."

Awadhi said the treaty should have covered all forms of telecommunications, including voice over Internet protocol and Internet-based instant messaging services. "They are using telecom network and using telecom services," he said.

Kramer told reporters that the United States had negotiated in good faith but that there were several issues that made agreement impossible, including the resolution's recognition of an ITU role.

He said a section on reducing the unwanted emails known as spam, for example, opened the door toward government monitoring and blocking of political or religious messages.

One of the last major sources of U.S. objection, a clause that might have given countries the right to administer website addresses, was struck from the treaty during attempts to salvage the deal.

The turnabout was a defeat for ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Tour?, who had previously predicted that "light-touch" Internet regulation would emerge from the conference.

But he said the 12-day meeting "has succeeded in bringing unprecedented public attention to the different and important perspectives that govern global communications."

Among the countries that said they could not sign, at least without consulting officials in their capitals, were most nations in Western Europe along with Canada, Philippines, Poland, Egypt, Kenya and Czech Republic.

The U.S. bloc's coordinated snub followed a vote that approved an African proposal to add a sentence in a treaty relating to human rights.

Western delegates said that effectively reintroduced a contentious proposal that had said no country should be allowed to unilaterally deny another country access to communications networks, which they said stretched too far into the political realm.

"We prefer no resolution on the Internet at all, and I'm extremely concerned that the language just adopted opens the possibility of Internet and content issues," Simon Towler, head of the UK delegation, said after the African proposal was passed.

The treaty is scheduled to be signed at 1330 GMT on Friday.

UK Closes Property Tax Loophole

It used to be that the ultra-rich could buy luxury residential property in the United Kingdom (UK) using offshore corporate funds and designate the purchase as a business expense, which would then allow them to sidestep a 15% tax on the purchase. The UK?s 2013 Finance Bill will close that loophole and avoiding the tax will only be possible if future buyers can prove the property will be used for a genuine commercial purpose. Experts say central London will see the greatest impact since more than 60% of residences there meet the ?2 million value threshold for the tax to be imposed. For more on this continue reading the following article from Property Wire.

Amendments to the UK?s 2013 Finance Bill will mean that foreign buyers of luxury residential property who use an offshore company will have to pay more tax but not genuine commercial investors.

The UK Chancellor George Osborne announced in his March Budget that he intended to close an alleged ?1 billion stamp duty loophole where some super rich foreigners avoided paying the levy by putting expensive homes in offshore companies.

Residential properties used for ?genuinely commercial activities? will be relieved from the 15% rate for corporate vehicles holding properties valued above ?2 million, the goverment has confirmed.

It means that bona fide businesses such as developers, traders and for investors holding buy to let properties, will instead pay a more general 7% rate introduced at the same time for properties over ?2 million.
?
The relief will have no restriction on the number of properties held by a company.? This means there will be no discrimination between size of company or length of trading history.
?
A ?claw back? regulation is also to be introduced. It means that companies will pay the additional 8%, taking the total to 15%, if they fail to prove the property has been used for genuinely commercial purposes within three years.
?
The Annual Levy, which will? be called the Annual Residential Property Tax (ARPT), is expected to come into effect on 01 April 2013 and will be payable by 31 October for the first year. Thereafter it will be due on or before 30 April.

The tax will amount to ?15,000 on properties bought for between ?2 million and ?5 million; ?35,000 for properties between ?5 million and ?10 million; ?70,000 on properties between ?10 million and ?20 million and ?140,000 on properties sold for more thatn ?20 million.
?
The tax will have the greatest impact on the prime London central (PLC) market where 60% of properties about ?2 million are located, according to Naomi Heaton, chief executive officer of London Central Portfolio Ltd, fund and asset managers that specialises in this property sector.
?
'Whilst all investors of ?2 million plus properties will still be liable for the 7% stamp duty, this positive clarification by the government as to the exemptions from the 15% SDLT and ARPT (Annual Levy) means the wait and see attitude adopted by buyers should now diminish. This had caused transactions to drop by 9% in the last quarter and resulted in a declining tax take for the Exchequer,' she said.
?
'It is likely that the 7% SDLT will be absorbed in due course, just as the dampening effect from the 5% rate for properties above ?1 million from the 2011 Budget has finally been rectified. Nevertheless, the domestic market is still reeling from this rise, with transactions falling 53% in Greater London for properties costing over ?2 million,' she explained.
?
She believes that the 15% tax and new ARPT may be a small price to pay for owner occupiers purchasing through a corporate vehicle, in relation to the benefit of owning a property in London, IHT savings and personal privacy. 'This levy is likely to be accepted as part of the investment cost, in the same way as a series of SDLT rises seen over the years have,' she said.
?
She added; 'The government should be applauded for this considered decision and the recognition of the genuinely commercial contribution of residential investment and the private rented sector. Hopefully, they have learned from their mistakes, and will not apply any more knee jerk or ill thought out measures, which may be populist but not prudent, without prior consultation and thorough research'.

The British Property Federation, which raised concerns at the time that the plan was announced, welcomed the changes. It said that the amendments show that it will not be applied indiscriminately across the UK market which could have had potentially disastrous consequences for commercial investment in residential property.
?
It added that the changes also ensure capital gains tax and an annual charge catch foreign buyers of luxury residential property, while not impinging on genuine business investment in UK residential property.

?Foreign buyers of luxury residential property for their own enjoyment were always the intended target of the stamp duty changes. It was never designed to deliberately clobber commercial investment in UK housing,? said Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation.

?The devil will be in the detail, but it appears Ministers have listened and sensibly decided to make technical changes that ensure the scope of the measure is not wider than it needs to be,? she explained.

?It is, however, unfortunate the confusion has led to an investment hiatus due to the uncertainty. Because of the legislative procedure businesses looking to invest today will have to wait until next summer, or pay the additional 8%,? she added.

Trial for man accused in boating death enters final day | FOX13Now ...

fujimoto

OGDEN, Utah ? The trial for one of the men accused of hitting a woman with a boat on Pineview Reservoir, and leaving her to die, is expected to wrap up Thursday.

Skyler Shepherd and two other men, Colton Raines and Cole Boyer, were on the boat the night of August 21, 2011 when 49-year-old Esther Fujimoto was hit and killed while swimming in the reservoir.

What happened after Fujimoto was hit by the boat is what jurors are trying to figure out.

They?ve heard emotional testimony this week, particularly from the man who tried to save Fujimoto. He said the three suspects left her in the water to die.

Defense attorneys argue that Shepherd, Raines and Boyer asked Fujimoto if she was okay and she responded that she was, and that is way they left the scene. The men thought they had missed hitting her, according to defense attorneys.

Prosecutors argue that the men could have done more to save Fujimoto?s life.

Fujimoto?s family said Shepherd has shown little remorse since the incident.

?Given the past 15 months, and from the defendant?s side, it is very, very consistent. And hence, that is the outrage that I feel, that I?ve felt and read and heard in that ensuing time period from the public, from society at large,? said Bryan Fujimoto, Esther Fujimoto?s brother.

One of the first responders also testified that if the men had called 911, emergency officials could have been at the scene within two minutes.

Shepherd is facing misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice and failure to render aid.

Trials for the other two men involved are set to begin in February.

TekSavvy under pressure to reveal user details as L.A. film studio ...

If a California film production company gets its way, an Ontario Internet service provider could be handing over the identities of hundreds of customers alleged to have engaged in illegal downloading.

L.A.-based Voltage Pictures LLC has brought a motion with the Federal Court of Canada to force Chatham-based TekSavvy Solutions Inc. to disclose the names and addresses associated with about 2,000 internet protocol, or IP, addresses.

Our customers are just wondering what this really means for them. It?s a bit scary

In a lawsuit against as-yet-unnamed John and Jane Does (filed at the Federal Court in Toronto on Nov. 14), Voltage is seeking compensation under the federal Copyright Act for the unauthorized copying and distributing of its works through file sharing networks.

TekSavvy is not a party to the legal action but Voltage is asking the court to compel the independent ISP to turn over the relevant user information to help identify the alleged infringers.

The move comes within weeks of new copyright legislation coming into effect and shortly after a similar action that resulted in a judge ordering Internet providers to release subscriber names and details to NGN Prima Productions Inc.

That case involved 50 IP addresses, Postmedia?s Gillian Shaw reported.

In both cases, the production companies engaged the services of Montreal-based forensic investigation firm Canipre Inc., which used software to scan BitTorrent networks for copyrighted works and then identify the IP address of each ?seeder? or ?peer? offering the files for transfer or distribution.

During the two month period between Sept. 1 and Oct. 30, Canipre scanned BitTorrent networks searching for works belonging to Voltage, the production company said in a notice of motion dated Dec. 7.

The firm then used that information to identify transactions associated with IP addresses for customers of TekSavvy in Ontario.

?Once [Voltage] obtains the defendants? contact information from their ISPs, it will be able to name those defendants as parties to this claim,? Voltage said in its statement of claim.

TekSavvy said it will only provide customer details if required to do so by a court order.

Tina Furlan, director of press relations for the ISP, said the company received a list of more than 2,000 IP addresses. Some customers had more than one IP address associated with their account and TekSavvy has now sent out about 1,100 notices to customers informing them of the potential legal action and recommending they get legal advice.

?Our customers are just wondering what this really means for them. It?s a bit scary,? she said. ?Even customers who have not received the notice are quite concerned because they don?t know whether next month maybe they?ll be on that list.?

Concerns around disclosure of personal information aside, the penalties associated with copyright infringement are not as high as they once were.

The new law provides for a penalty from $100 to a maximum of $5,000 for all infringements related to personal-use that occurred prior to a legal action.

Under the old rules, the maximum fine was $20,000 per infringement, which remains the case for violations for commercial-use.

The Copyright Modernization Act, once known as Bill C-11, received royal assent in June and most of its provisions came into force on Nov. 7.

It provides that copyright holders can request that ISPs provide user information where there is a claim of copyright infringement.

In a blog post on the TekSavvy website, CEO Marc Gaudrault said he was ?puzzled? by Voltage?s approach.

?It seems contrary to the government?s intent with copyright reform which was to discourage file sharing lawsuits against individuals, while still protecting copyright holders? rights,? he said, adding that the government created a ?roadmap? for addressing file sharing issues, the starting point of which is a notification system to discourage infringement without immediately moving to the threat of a lawsuit or public disclosure of personal information.

?That system is not yet finalized though. In light of these factors, Voltage?s actions seem odd to us,? he said.

The motion to compel TekSavvy to disclose user details is set for Dec. 17.

Representatives from Voltage did not respond to a request for comment.

A new study by biologists at Mercyhurst University focuses on the influence of climate change, particularly warmer winters, on the survival and potential fecundity of cold-blooded animals.

Cold blooded animals, or ectotherms, do not have an internal mechanism for regulating body temperature. Instead, they rely on solar energy captured by the environment.

The purpose of the Mercyhurst study, a collaboration of Michael Elnitsky, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology; and students Drew Spacht and Seth Pezar, is to assess the current and future impacts of climate change on the overwintering energetics and microenvironmental conditions of the goldenrod gall fly (Eurosta solidaginis). Larvae of the goldenrod gall fly have long served as model organisms for studying the strategies used by freeze-tolerant animals for winter survival.

"We used historical temperature data to estimate the overwintering (November through March) energy use of larval gall flies," Elnitsky said. "Based upon the relationship between metabolic rate and temperature, the estimated energy utilization during winter has increased by more than 30 percent over the last 50 years."

Further, with continued climate change, each additional 1 degree C rise in temperature during winter is projected to increase energy use by 12 percent. The consequence of this is that the amount of energy remaining at winter's end directly determines how many offspring the goldenrod gall fly can produce.

"Unlike some other insects that are benefitting from a changing climate, goldenrod gall fly populations would be predicted to decline," Elnitsky said.

The research team has begun similar assessments of the impacts of a changing winter climate for other arthropods, such as deer ticks (Ixodes scapularis) that transmit Lyme disease bacteria and the hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae), an invasive insect destroying hemlock forests throughout the eastern U.S.

The Mercyhurst group presented their research at the annual meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA) in Knoxville, Tenn., last month. Spacht of Erie and Pezar of Madison, Ohio, were awarded the President's Prize in the Physiology, Biochemistry and Toxicology section for their poster presentation. The President's Prize is the award given to the top undergraduate presentation in each section at the conference, which was attended by more than 4,000 scholars.

Commitment Phobia May be Blamed on Relationship With Parents ...

Commitment Phobia

Afraid to commit yourself to a relationship? Blame it on your parents, says a new study from Tel Aviv University.

For the study, the researchers studied the romantic history of 58 adults aged between 22 and 28 found that those who are afraid to commit themselves to a relationship are most likely a product of unresponsive or over-intrusive parenting, says Dr. Sharon Dekel, a psychologist and researcher at the Bob Shappell School of Social Work. Dr. Dekel and her fellow researcher, Prof. Barry Farber of Columbia University.

The researchers have found that 22.4 percent of the participants displayed anxiety about intimacy, reluctance to commit or felt that their partner was "clingy." The people reportedly were satisfied in their relationships when compared to people who wanted to be in secure relationships.

The researchers through the study have found that while both secure and avoidant individuals expressed a desire for intimacy in relationships, avoidant individuals are conflicted about this need due the complex nature if parent-child relationship they experienced as a child.

Dr. Dekel says that during times of stress, infants look for emotional support from caregivers or parents. However, if the parent is unresponsive or overly intrusive, the child learns to avoid them. The adult relationships may be a reflection of these experiences, the researchers believe.

When avoidant individuals get into a relationship, they try to satisfy their unmet childhood needs, Dr. Dekel explains.

"Avoidant individuals are looking for somebody to validate them, accept them as they are, can consistently meet their needs and remain calm-including not making a fuss about anything or getting caught up in their own personal issues."

She says that the tendency to avoid dependence on a partner is actually a defense mechanism rather than an avoidance of intimacy.

This group needs to be studied further because apart from the fact that these people have a very limited ability to continue a satisfying romantic relationship, they are also less happier than others notes Dr. Dekel. There is still more to understand and discover about their needs, perhaps through more sophisticated neurological studies, she suggests.

Further, Dr. Dekel says that sometimes, some experiences bring about permanent change in people's relationship styles. For example, after a traumatic event, survivors show a greater ability and desire to form closer relationships, Dr. Dekel observed in a previous study in the Journal of Psychological Trauma.

The study was published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease.

Which actress is considered 'most desirable'?

Astrid Stawiarz / Getty Images

By Reuters

Jennifer Lawrence, you are the world's most desirable woman, according to an international poll released on Tuesday by the website AskMen.

"The Hunger Games" star rose to the top of the list from No. 47 last year on the heels of the box-office smash while buffing her credibility as a quirky, sex-mad young widow in the independent film "Silver Linings Playbook," AskMen editor in chief James Bassil said.

"Overall, there's a sense that she's a little more authentic than other actors," Bassil said, adding that the public still knows too little about the 22-year-old actress to form a negative opinion.

"She's fresh because we haven't seen her all over the gossip pages for the past three or four years," Bassil said.

Lawrence bumped last year's winner, Sofia Vergara of "Modern Family" fame, down to No. 12, while reality star Kim Kardashian plummeted to No. 98.

The poll surveyed 2.4 million readers asking them to vote on which celebrity they would choose as a prospective partner, according to the website, which is a unit of News Corp. The top 99 are then compiled into the annual poll.

Rounding out the top five were actress Mila Kunis, model Kate Upton, R&B star Rihanna and "Crazy, Stupid, Love" actress Emma Stone.

Bassil said that lots of publicity often correlates to higher desirability ranking from men, but too many headlines can leave men looking elsewhere.?

The most notable drop was socialite Kardashian, who fell 90 places from last year's No. 8 ranking.

"Kim Kardashian is petering off and basically dropping off the list at this point even as she's become more visible," Bassil said.

Youth also appears to have taken a backseat in men's tastes as this year's rankings feature a handful of women over 40.

"We've seen that increasingly over the past two or three years," Bassil said. "Like most things in life, attractiveness is extending into middle age.... Who knows? In 20 years we could see 60-year-olds on the list."

Those over the age of 40 on the list include U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, 48; comedienne Sarah Silverman, 42; actress Lucy Liu, 44; and British actress Rachel Weisz, 42.

New Yahoo! President and Chief Executive Marissa Mayer was the only business executive to make list at No. 59.

The full list can be seen at www.askmen.com.?

Name: Sue Huey & Graeme Fraser
Location: Brighton, East Sussex, UK
Years lived in: 4 years; Owned

Located in the very heart of central Brighton, Sue and Graeme's Victorian townhouse is a refuge of tranquility, just yards from the city's main shopping street. Sue, a trend forecaster and mother to Iris and Harper, has amassed a varied collection of antiques and curios, which are grouped decoratively throughout the house.

The children share a bedroom at the front of the house which is playfully decorated with personalized bunting, crocheted blankets and retro kids' furniture, while downstairs a mix of vintage and industrial inspired pieces come together to create a stylish family home.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Homely and eclectic.

Inspiration: Nothing too precious. The only rule is that it has to be comfortable and make us feel relaxed.

Favorite Element: The size and layout of the kitchen/dining room. It's big enough to entertain a large group of friends and is the main place people gather.

Biggest Challenge: Furnishing long, narrow rooms where after 200 years there appear to be very few right angles.

What Friends Say: Everyone is really surprised by how big it is once you step through the front door. It was originally a cottage for the workers at a brewery that used to be opposite the house. Since then it has been extensively converted.

Biggest Embarrassment: The bathroom. It needs some serious love and attention.

Proudest DIY: It sounds very tame, but drilling holes through tiles for shelving. We've been very lucky in that we have had to do very little in terms of serious DIY.

Biggest Indulgence: Bespoke wooden shutters. These were made by a Brighton-based carpenter.

Best Advice: Buy things that makes you feel happy and comfortable.

Dream Sources: Fine Little Day, anything from Scandinavian Retreat's little cabin, a Design*Sponge sneak peak, or The Selby.

Cable subscribers are about to get a sneaky fee

1 day

If you have cable TV service, you probably have at least one set-top box in your house. On Monday, a federal rule change takes effect that could eventually force you to?rent more cable boxes.

Right now, most cable systems don?t scramble the ?basic tier? service which includes local broadcast stations, public, government and education channels, as well as some non-premium programming. Buy basic service and you can plug the cable into a digital set that has a QAM tuner and see these unencrypted channels without a set-top box.

Cable companies want to scramble everything coming through their wire, including basic service. They say this will allow them to reduce theft ? prevent people from watching programs they didn?t pay for ? and improve customer service.

Their plan is to keep every cable household connected to the network and then activate or terminate service remotely, rather than sending out the cable guy. They say this will improve efficiency ? technicians can focus on more difficult installations ? and reduce the need for customers to stay at home waiting for service.

The Federal Communications Commission had prohibited the encryption of basic cable since 1994. But in October, the commission voted to allow it, starting on Dec.?10.

?By permitting cable operators to join their competitors in encrypting the basic service tier, the Commission has adopted a sensible, pro-consumer approach that will reduce overall in-home service calls and accelerate cable operators? transition to all-digital networks,? said Michael Powell, president of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) in a statement.

Should your cable company do that, you will need a set-top box on every TV in the house to watch any cable programming.

A charge for every television
?The cable companies, with the FCC?s blessing, have figured out how to pick the pockets of cable customers and charge them for every television they have ? even when they don?t really need a cable box,? said consumer advocate Edgar Dworsky, founder of ConsumerWorld.org

Dworsky told me he has ?secondary? television sets in his kitchen, office and guest room. Each of these has the cable wire from the wall connected to it so he can watch his local TV stations. If his cable company encrypts those stations, which he expects it to do sometime in the next six months, he?ll need to get converter boxes for each of those sets ? or buy an antenna.

The FCC acknowledged that its rule change would ?adversely affect a small number? of cable subscribers.

Dworsky calls that ?ludicrous.?? And he points to comments filed by the City of Boston, which warned the commission that allowing cable operators to encrypt basic service ?would result in real and substantial benefits for cable operators, and equally real and substantial costs for consumers.??

None of the six major cable companies in the country has announced a date to encrypt basic channels.

In an email to NBC News, NCTA spokesman Brian Dietz noted that Cablevision already encrypts basic service in New York City under a waiver granted by the FCC in 2010. Dietz said the company did not receive any complaints from its customers.

When asked what it planned to do, Comcast, the country?s largest cable service provider, said in a statement:

?Currently, we do not have any announcements to make. Should we plan any changes in the future, we will notify any impacted customers well ahead of time.? ?

(Comcast is the parent company of NBC Universal, which owns NBC News.)

Dworsky insists Comcast and other cable companies would not have lobbied so hard for the rule change if they did not plan to scramble basic cable channels.?

The details of the FCC?s encryption decision
Before a cable company can encrypt basic service, it must give customers 30 days advance notice. The FCC rule requires them to give two free converter boxes to customers with only basic service for two years and one free box to everyone else for one year. After that, the cable companies could sell or rent the boxes.

The FCC?s decision does not require those free converter boxes to deliver high-definition signals. For basic service in HD, customers would have to rent an HD box which could cost as much as $10 a month.

Consumer advocates say these box rentals will become a new revenue stream for cable companies.

?People have gotten used to seeing these channels for free, so this is going to be a setback for many folks,? said Linda Sherry, director of national priorities at Consumer Action. ?People have to ask themselves if cable TV is something they want and can afford, because it?s going to continue to go up in price.?

Dworsky hopes unhappy customers will let the FCC and their cable companies know how they feel about the rule change.

?This will be a good test to see which cable companies really care about their customers and which care more about their bottom line,? he said.
